What is Monopoly Go?

Though we have yet to come across someone who never played the Monopoly board game with their family in their young years, we’ve come to find that not everyone who’s played the board game is familiar with Monopoly Go, the app-based (and might we add, much improved-upon) version of this popular childhood game. Similar to the board game we all know well, Monopoly Go is a fun, fast-paced dice game that allows you to buy property, collect rent from other players, and compete with your friends. However, that’s where the similarities end, as Monopoly Go is so much more!

Is Monopoly Go Free to Play?

Yes, Monopoly Go is totally free to play and does not cost anything to download. While the game may prompt you to make in-app purchases to customize your gameplay, these purchases are not required in order for you to enjoy the game.

Does Monopoly Go Pay Real Money?

No, Monopoly Go does not pay real money. Instead, you earn virtual currency that can be used for in-game purchases like leveling up landmarks, which you need to do to complete each board.

However, with Fetch Play, you can earn points by completing assorted milestones in Monopoly Go, and these Fetch points can be redeemed for actual, real-life gift cards to your favorite retailers, like Amazon, Target, Starbucks, Dunkin, and many more!

How to Play Monopoly Go

Playing Monopoly Go is both fun and simple. You roll the dice to determine how many spaces you can move. As you go around the board, you can earn money (and also lose it), as well as acquire property, through a variety of different means.

With the money you earn, you will also be able to level up different landmarks associated with the board you’re on. Once you’ve leveled up all the landmarks on the current board to the fullest, you complete the level and move on to the next board.

There are also railroad tiles that you can land on, which will then trigger additional money-making opportunities in the form of Shut Down and Bank Heist mini-games; in Shut Down games, you can attack other players’ landmarks in an attempt to earn money, and in Bank Heist games (as the name suggests), you can take money directly out of another player’s bank account.

How Many Boards are in Monopoly Go?

Those wondering how many levels there are in Monopoly Go will find a range of answers when scouring the internet. Some sources say that there are over 300 boards, while others suggest that the amount of Monopoly Go boards is actually infinite and that boards will continue to regenerate and repeat as you progress through the game.

Until we get a definite answer from the game’s creators, it’s anyone’s guess. This writer is only on Level 71 currently, so I know I have a ways to go regardless…

How to Get Free Dice Rolls in Monopoly Go

Dice rolls are an essential component of Monopoly Go, as you need to roll the dice to get around the board and progress through the game. Since you have access to a finite number of rolls to start with, you’ll need to acquire additional dice rolls once the ones you have run out.

There are a number of ways you can easily earn free dice rolls in Monopoly Go:

  • Hourly Auto Regeneration: Every hour, you can accrue additional free dice rolls, depending on your net worth in the game.
  • Daily Treats: When you open the app for the first time on a given day, you get a reward, and oftentimes these are free dice.
  • Free Gifts: In addition to Daily Treats, you also earn free gifts every 18 hours, and free dice rolls are often the gift.
  • Inviting Friends: Playing Monopoly Go with your friends is not only fun, but inviting friends will also earn you free dice rolls if they download and install the game.
  • Shield Tiles: When you land on a shield tile and you already have full shields, you’ll get free dice rolls in the amount of the cost of your dice roll.
  • Stickers: You collect stickers as you progress through the game, and if you have duplicate stickers, you can choose to exchange them with the “Stickers for Rewards” feature; among the reward options are free dice rolls.
  • Completed Sticker Album Sets: Once you complete a sticker album set, you get free dice rolls, and once you’ve completed the full album, you get additional dice rolls.
  • Community Chest: Any time you help a friend open their Community Chest, you will earn additional free dice rolls.

What is the Monopoly Wheel in Monopoly Go?

When you complete a color set by acquiring all the property tiles of the same color, you earn a Monopoly wheel. You then spin the wheel to see which reward you’ve won; rewards range from Monopoly cash, free dice rolls, sticker packs, and more. To spin the Monopoly wheel, you simply tap the “Spin” button, and watch to see where the wheel stops, which then determines your prize.

How to Get Free Wheels on Monopoly Go

In addition to acquiring all the properties in a color set, there are a few tried and true ways you can earn free wheels in Monopoly Go:

  • Win Matches: You can earn an array of rewards from winning matches in Monopoly Go, free wheels being among these prizes.
  • Complete Challenges: Monopoly Go offers an assortment of weekly and even daily challenges, and rewards for completing some of these challenges include more wheel spins.
  • Take Part in Events: When you participate in events hosted in the game and meet the goal of a specific event, you can win rewards, and oftentimes these are free wheels.
  • Connect With Your Friends: When you connect with friends on social media when prompted in-game, you can sometimes win additional Monopoly wheels.

How to Add People on Monopoly Go

Adding friends in Monopoly Go is easy, and there are three potential ways to do so:

  1. Add People via Facebook: The game will ask permission to connect to your Facebook account and then will automatically add any of your Facebook friends that are already playing Monopoly Go.
  2. Add People via Contacts: The game will access your contacts list in your phone and automatically add any of your phone contacts that are already playing Monopoly Go.
  3. Add People via Invite: You’ll get an invite link in-game which you can send to your friends to help them install the game. Once they’ve installed and played the game, they will automatically be added to your Friends list.

How to Get Different Shields in Monopoly Go

Shields are placed at random on property tiles throughout the game. When you land on a shield, you automatically pick it up, and it will then protect you when one of your landmarks is attacked by another player. Once a shield has blocked an attack, it is used up, so you will need to continue acquiring shields in order to keep your landmarks protected.

You are able to collect different themed shields through a variety of means, including:

  • Participating in special in-game events
  • Upgrading your net worth
  • Completing boards

How to Get Pickaxes in Monopoly Go

Many of the methods for acquiring free Monopoly Go dice rolls and wheels are the same ways you can also earn more pickaxes in-game.

Some of the ways you get more pickaxes in Monopoly Go include:

  • Completing Quick Wins: Free pickaxes are often among the rewards you’ll get when you complete required daily tasks.
  • Participating in Events: If you participate in events or tournaments and end up on the leaderboard, you can sometimes win pickaxes.
  • Free Prizes: You’re able to claim a free prize every 8 hours, and pickaxes are sometimes a part of the prize pack.
  • Milestone Rewards: As you complete certain milestones while playing the game, you will sometimes be rewarded with more pickaxes.
  • In-App Purchase: Gems and in-game currency can both be used to buy pickaxes.

How to Send Stars on Monopoly Go

While you cannot send stars directly to friends, you can trade and send in-game stickers that have a star value (one to five, displayed at the top of the sticker). The way to redeem the stickers for stars is by having duplicate stickers, so in order for a friend to actually get the stars, you need to make sure you send them a sticker that is a duplicate of one they already have. Once your friend receives the duplicate sticker, the duplicates will automatically turn into stars.

To send stars to friends by sharing duplicate stickers:

  1. Open your sticker album in the bottom right of your Monopoly Go screen (to the right of the “Go” button).
  2. Choose from any of your duplicate stickers; you’ll know which you have duplicates of because these are noted by an icon that looks like a + followed by a number indicating the amount of duplicates you have.
  3. Tap on the sticker, and then click on the button at the bottom of the next screen that says, “Send to Friend.”
  4. Choose a friend from your Friends list, and then tap “Continue.”
  5. You’ll then be asked to confirm that you do, in fact, wish to send that sticker; tap “Send” at the bottom of the screen to confirm the action.

How to Get Gold Cards on Monopoly Go

Golden cards, or golden stickers, in Monopoly Go are harder to acquire than stickers of other colors because these cannot be traded with other players outside of the Golden Blitz event.

Apart from the Golden Blitz, the two most reliable ways to get gold cards are:

  1. Complete Quick Wins: Achieving certain milestones and completing required tasks (like landing on a specific tile or attacking an opponent twice) can result in you being awarded a gold card or sticker.
  2. Participate in Events and Tournaments: If you consistently play Monopoly Go and are able to place high in tournaments, you’ll increase your chances of acquiring gold stickers. Earning points in events can also earn you sticker packs, and you have a chance of getting a gold sticker in any one of those packs.
+

Can You Trade Gold Stickers in Monopoly Go?

Yes, you can trade gold stickers in Monopoly Go, but the Golden Blitz is the only time you can do so. As gold stickers are in such high demand, it’s wise to trade any spare gold stickers when the opportunity arises as part of a Golden Blitz.

When is the Next Golden Blitz in Monopoly Go?

Unfortunately, the Golden Blitz is not on a fixed schedule, and when a Golden Blitz is happening, it is only for a limited time; while other in-game events can run for several days or longer, the Golden Blitz only lasts for 24 hours or less.

The best way to find out when the next Golden Blitz is happening is by turning on your Monopoly Go push notifications, so you receive a message notifying you when the Golden Blitz is live.
