11 Eco-Friendly Brands to Support for Earth Day
By Kate Michael
April 21, 2022
Over a billion people participate in Earth Day every year. Some volunteer for community clean-ups. Some plant trees and flowers or commit to going car-free for the day. Others show their support for the Earth by choosing to shop for brands that make conscious efforts to protect the planet, and those of us living on it, from harm.
There are hundreds of companies out there with the sole mission of helping consumers live more eco-friendly lives, but here are eleven great ones that offer useful products for responsible consumers.
Shop these eco-friendly brands and support the Earth on Earth Day — and every day.
Food Story
CVS shoppers probably already know and love Food Story, a brand with a wide variety of products from shampoo bars to face masks, that makes a continuous commitment to eco-friendly ingredients and packaging by reducing plastic waste that typically ends up in a landfill and focusing instead on biodegradable and recyclable materials. By choosing natural plant-based formulas with fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, Food Story products have delicious scents and superfood benefits, but no harsh chemicals… or harsh price points.
Compostic
Did you know that plastic wrap usually isn’t recyclable in your curbside bin? This means that all of the thin plastic films, many of us use for sealing and securing food items, end up getting thrown away. How sad for the Earth! So if you regularly use cling wrap at home, you may have searched for more eco-friendly storage options. Compostic has just the thing to provide an easy way for people to avoid the use of plastics, while still maintaining the convenience that products like cling wrap bring to everyday life. Compostic’s Home Compostable Cling Wrap breaks down in your at-home compost bin or commercial compost facility in just 12 to 24 weeks. Some other great things about it are that it has more heft than most plastic wraps, and users appreciate that it has perforated lines for easy tearing.
Backyard Candles
Backyard Candles claim to be “born from the elements, like us all.” Not only do they have a unique aesthetic and appeal, but they are made using upcycled coconuts — a zero waste product —natural soy and coconut wax, high-end fragrance, and clean-burning cotton wicks. Furthermore, 5% of Backyard Candles’ profit is donated to help clean up the Earth’s oceans and protect coral reefs!
Cloth & Bristle
Cloth & Bristle’s household products have that pretty-in-pink aesthetic that’s so popular these days. But while these cleansers and brushes are easy on the eyes and gentle on surfaces, they are equally tough on grime and bacteria! Cloth & Bristles’ multi-purpose cleaner is non-toxic and disinfects without causing any harm to your home, your family, your pets, or our precious environment.
noyah
Clean and all-natural lip care brand noyah is made with only ingredients you can pronounce. What a relief! Made in small-sized kitchens around the U.S., its popular balms, glosses, and lipsticks can be found at stores nationwide.
All of Noah’s products are made from 100% food, and nearly all are USDA-certified biobased, cruelty — and everything else! — free.
What’s more, while some other beauty brands that claim to be eco-friendly often have endless amounts of product packaging and shipping materials for just one single product, noyah’s come in packaging that reduces plastic waste.
Avocado Green Mattress
It can be scary to think about what you may be sleeping on! Organic mattresses help you sleep easier, made from no synthetic materials and free from any chemical treatments.
Launched in 2016 as an affordable, organic mattress alternative, Avocado has since expanded to furniture, linens, and other bedroom essentials. Customers love Avocado Green Mattress‘s sustainably-made mattresses as well as its eco-luxury bedding and bath linens, but this brand goes a step further now that it has brick-and-mortar locations with a store design that draws inspiration from the natural elements and materials that comprise its organic products as well as the local community.
Nautilus Puzzles
Even the popular entertainment of the last few years can be eco-conscious. Nautilus Puzzles elevates the growing enthusiasm for the time-honored pastime of puzzling to new levels. They craft intricate wooden jigsaws for adults using soy-based inks and the latest cutting-edge laser technology to fabricate pieces from formaldehyde-free birch/basswood plywood sustainably harvested in Finland and FSC-certified. And all puzzles are made in the USA!
Lia
Every year, some 20 million pregnancy tests end up in landfills because their electronic result-display screens and plastic sticks prevent them from being considered recyclable. Lia, a unique flushable pregnancy test, changes all of that.
Plastic-free, Lia tests are comprised of a natural plant fiber called cellulose and are also completely free of glass fibers and nitrocellulose. Not only does this mean they can be flushed down the toilet, but they are fully biodegradable, keeping trash out of landfills.
Lia’s tests are over 99% accurate and FDA-approved, just like the other leading pregnancy tests on the market. And as a bonus — they are more discrete. You don’t have to worry about someone accidentally seeing the test in your trash can.
Our Place
The brand that introduced the cult favorite Always Pan actually has a couple of magic kitchenware multitaskers. Its pans, dinnerware, and glassware bundles are popular for so many reasons, including being ethically made with responsible materials and being Teflon-, PFOA-, and PTFE-free.
In addition to the products themselves, Our Place uses biodegradable and recyclable packaging in its shipments, the brand partners with charitable organizations, and it prioritizes ethical work practices when crafting each of its sustainably made pieces.
Project Blu
Pets surely want to live a more eco-friendly life, too! Project Blu sells a comprehensive line of stylish and sustainable pet products, including collars, leashes, beds, harnesses, toys, and more, all of which are made from recycled materials like ocean-bound plastic, recycled clothes, recycled leather, and discarded fishing nets.
Patagonia
There may be no brand more known for its eco-consciousness than outdoor- and adventure-wear brand Patagonia. It has certainly set a high bar!
So many of Patagonia’s products are made from recycled materials, including polyester, nylon, and wool. Furthermore, the brand starkly rejects fast fashion by asking consumers to stop and think about whether they need to buy a certain item, creating high-quality, long-lasting products, and offering a repair and reuse program to keep products from ending up in landfills.
Patagonia also announced a commitment recently to reduce its footprint further by cutting emissions throughout its supply chain.
